In 1996 members, Consultants and employees of Slimming World made a tremendous effort to raise money for charity. When a cheque for an incredible half a million pounds was handed to Marie Curie Cancer Care, our Founder and Chairwoman, Margaret Miles-Bramwell was inspired to register Slimming World’s very own charity. In 1997, SMILES was born. SMILES stands for SLIMMERS MAKING IT a LITTLE EASIER for SOMEONE, and each year the SMILES committee chooses a special charity to benefit from our Consultants’ and members’ amazing generosity. So far SMILES has raised over £2,000,000 and helped:
During 2010 all our fundraising efforts will be raising money for the NSPCC’s Child’s Voice Appeal in the UK and new charity partner, the ISPCC (Irish Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Children) in EIRE. Every single penny we raise will go towards helping the charities transform their Childline services and answer many more calls for help. Our 6-week Slimathon kicks off our fundraising calendar of events for 2010 and if you would like to take part please email us at slimathon@slimmingworld.com for more information and a sponsor form. Running until the end of March, simply choose any 6 week period to get sponsored to lose weight. The event is open to members and non members alike so encourage friends and family to take part too!
